Top 10 Best Valentine's Day Movies
79Have you ever been in a situation when a holiday was approaching and you felt that watching a movie or two about that holiday to increase the excitement? That happens to me all the time! Therefore, I decided to share with you guys my top 10 Valentine's Day movies. Some of the movies are about Valentine's Day, while others are just romantic comedies, but hey - Valentine's Day is a day for romance! Keep in mind though, I, personally, prefer new movies, so do not get mad at me if some of your favorite old school movies are not on the list. Additionally, I have not seen plenty of the romantic movies; therefore, this list is going to be subjective.
10. Sex and the City (2008)
Sarah Jessica Parker (Carrie) brings a nice movie from the world famous TV show series with the same name - Sex and the City. In the movie, she goes up in her career, working at Vogue and being successful businesswoman. However, this is Valentine's Day list, so let's talk about love. Carrie gets engaged with Mr. Big and they are getting ready to get married. As with everything exciting, pressure starts to build up and on the wedding eve, Carrie tells her husband that marriage ruins everything. Mr. Big starts to think about cancelling the wedding off... And what goes on next? Well, why don't you watch the movie yourself? :)
9. I Hate Valentine's Day (2009)
Although the title of the movie does not seem any positive or bringing any good feelings about the Valentine's Day, the movie itself is really funny and worth the time watching. Genevieve (Nia Vardalos) has a general rule for dating - a limit of five dates with a man to avoid relationship, and, then, move on. Her rule works until she meets Greg (John Corbett). After five dates, she says bye to Greg tries to move on. But she seems to have something missing in her life. Eventually, she realizes. Guess what? It was Greg that she misses!
Overall, it is a really funny movie, and I do recommend to watch it. A theme matches up as well - it is a movie about the Valentine's Day.
8. Sex and the City 2 (2010)
The second movie is even better than the first one. All the girls - Carrie, Charlotte (Kristin Davis), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), and Samantha (Kim Cattrall) are getting tired of their jobs and personal lives, and, luckily, Samantha gets an all-expense paid trip to Abu Dhabi. And who would reject that, huh? Definitely, not the four girls. In Abu Dhabi, the girls go deeper into their lives and try to analyze it, while enjoying all the commodities that the Middle East provides them with. However, they forget that in the Middle East, women do not have the same rights as men.
This movie is a really funny comedy/drama. If you are a fan of the Sex and the City series, you should definitely watch it!
7. Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005)
If you have not seen this movie yet, you have already missed out. The movie itself has nothing to do with the Valentine's Day, but that does not change the fact how awesome the movie is. To begin with, the movie has two of the most famous actors - Brad Pitt (John) and Angelina Jolie (Jane). A duet like that lets you know that something good is coming up.
The movie itself is about the married couple, whose both members are professional assassins. However, neither does not know about another being an assassin until both of them get a mission to kill one another. And then the fun starts!
Although the movie is not about the Valentine's Day, it will bring you and your lover together and give you both a good laugh.
6. 500 Days of Summer (2009)
500 Days of Summer is one of the most heart-breaking movie I have ever seen. However, it is an amazing love story between two Tom (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and Summer (Zooey Deschanel). The idea of the movie is that it will show 500 days of Tom dating Summer. Summer is Tom's first love and in different scenes, he remember different aspects of her. What makes the movie outstanding is the fact that the movie is not chronological. It is the first movie of this type I have ever seen in my life. Although it is a sad movie, it does have a happy ending, and it will make you smile at the end.
5. No Strings Attached (2011)
The story of this movie is fairly simple - a girl and a guy wants to keep the relationship simple -strictly physical. However, how often does it work out that way?
Adam (Ashton Kutcher) and Emma (Natalie Portman) have met in their childhood, in the summer camp. Ever since then, their lives keep crossing time after time. They start having sex, and promise to each other to keep it strictly sex-based relationship. However, it starts evolving into something else - Adam starts developing feelings for Emma, and it makes her uncomfortable. Emma decides to stop having contact to Adam. What happens next, you will see in the movie. :)
The movie is one of the best romantic comedies, created in 2011. I, personally, like it a lot, and recommend it to you. It is a perfect movie for your Valentine's night!
4. Leap Year (2010)
Leap Year is a movie with an unorthodox story. A woman, Anna (Amy Adama), expects her boyfriend to propose to her, but, instead, he gives her a present. Then, she decides that she will propose to him on a Leap Day. However, her boyfriend is leaving for Dublin and he will be there for the Leap Day. What she has to do now is go to Ireland, and find her boyfriend. That turns out to be harder than she planned it to be.
It is an amazing movie, with kind of predictable but at the same time unexpected ending. The story is very unique from any of the other romantic comedies, bringing this movie to the fourth place on my top list.
3. Love Actually (2003)
Love Actually follows the lives of eight people. The movie place in London on Christmas, so it could be classified as Christmas movie more than Valentine's Day movie. However, the love stories in this movie are very engaging and confusing. The movie starts out showing the lives of eight random people. Gradually, it keeps connecting the random people, and intertwining their lives, until it reaches the point, where it all becomes clear.
I like this type of movies - where peoples lives get twisted around one another, and then in the end it all becomes clear - so I loved this movie as well. If you like interesting and unpredictable movies, this is a perfect Valentine's night movie!
2. Titanic (1997)
I believe there is no single person in the world who has never heard of Titanic. The famous Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet love story has created many of discussions and has been titled one of the best movies of all time. The movie has won 11 oscars, 78 other awards, and has been nominated for 43 awards more. What makes movie even more outstanding is the fact that it is partially based on a true story - there was a ship called Titanic. However, the character and the love story is fiction.
If you have not seen this movie before, right now is a perfect time to go and grab the movie out of the shelf - it is one of the best love stories ever shot!
1. Valentine's Day (2010)
My number one pick goes to the movie called after the actually holiday - Valentine's Day. The main reason for that being is that the list is about movies for Valentine's Day, and what can be better than watching a movie about Valentine's Day? Despite that, that movie is very interesting as well. It has a similar kind of story as Love Actually - the movie starts off by showing various random people, and, eventually, intertwines the characters one with another, making it an amazing Valentine's Day love story.
This movie is a must see movie on Valentine's Day - it does not matter whether you will like it or not, it is the movie of the Valentine's Day.

I love the SATC movies. I'm just a fan of the overall show as well :)
I haven't seen Leap Year or Friends with Benefits they look good. Also a good classic is My Big Fat Greek Wedding! The father in that movie is hilarious and it is a romantic one :)
T
I agree with eatforcheaper. My Big Fat Greek Wedding is a must-watch! I don’t usually watch these kinds of movies but am trying to get a couple together to watch with my boyfriend tonight. I didn’t really plan ahead but a coworker of mine from DISH reminded me about DISH Online. There I can check the guide and set timers for movies that are playing today and even order pay-per-views. That way everything will be recorded and waiting for me by the time I get home and I’ll look like I planned the whole thing. My boyfriend already owns Love Actually so that won’t be on the list but I think Valentine’s Day and I Hate Valentine’s Day will make it. Thanks for sharing!
