Google Pagerank Update: February 2012

Many of you know, or at least have a clue, what Google Pagerank actually is. OK, actually knowing what Google PR is impossible. Google never talks too much about its ranking system, pageranks, and their importance. However, SEO experts have some ideas about Pagerank. In general, Pagerank is considered to determine your standing on Google search engine. Usually, Pagerank is determined by the links and the quality of the links from the other websites to your website. The higher Pagerank of the website linking to you the more likely you are to get a higher Pagerank. However, Google Pagerank is not the only thing determining your standing in the search engine. There are many different factors, Google Pagerank being one of them, that can bring your website higher in the search results.

Google keeps a certain pattern when updating the Pageranks of the World Wide Web. The major updates usually happen around three to four times a year, with some minor updates occasionally. The difference between major and minor updates are that minor updates usually affect only some websites, while the major updates are global. The pattern of the updates for the past couple of years looks like this:

• July 19th, 2011
• June 27th, 2011
• January 20th, 2011
• October 18th, 2010
• July 1st, 2010
• April 6th, 2010
• February 13th, 2010

As you can see, Google really does have a tendency to update the Pageranks every three to four months.

Everyone has been expecting Google to put an update out at the end of January or the beginning of February, and it did happen. Update has just been released on February 6th, 2012. The next update of Google Pagerank should be done in about 4 months from the February 6th - it should be at the end of June or the beginning of July. The exact proposed date is June 30th, 2012 - July 3rd, 2012. The later update should hit the world in the beginning to mid Fall. The end of September or the beginning of October should serve another update. That might be the last update of the year 2012. However, there is still a possibility that the update will happen at the end of December, but it is more likely to see a new update in the beginning of the year 2013.

There are many ways to check what is your Pagerank. Many websites have been created for the purpose of checking Google Pagerank. Some of them you have to pay to, some are free for limited amount of websites, while the rest is free for everyone and unlimited number of websites. However, my personal favorite method of checking the Pagerank is installing Google Toolbar on your internet browser. It will automatically show you the Pagerank of the website that you have opened.

However, Google Chrome does not support Google Toolbar (what is ironic, considering that both products are created by Google and do not support one another). Fortunately, I have found the solution! You can go to the Google Chrome web store and type in "Pagerank" in the search bar. You will be provided with plenty of different apps to choose from to check the Pagerank. I use Pagerank Status by ChromeFans.org but I have never tried the other ones.
